There is something about Winton that appeals to Judie and I. It still has the feel of an outback town and a trip to the pub certainly has a lot of the local characters! There’s also a lot to do in the area and although we were only there for one full day this time we managed to squeeze in dinner at the Tattersalls Hotel, a visit to the Waltzing Matilda Centre (including hearing about 20 different versions of Waltzing Matilda!) and a 1943 John Wayne movie in the open air theater. Good fun!
Porcupine Gorge was our next stop. We’d been there before with our friends Hank and Deb. Nice bush camp with some lovely scenery. We walked down into the gorge but took our swimmers this time! By the time we got back up to the top though we felt like we needed another swim.
Pinnarendi Station was next on the list and we’d booked in for the wood fired pizza night and the Barra and chips night. Both were delicious – best pizza I’ve had in a long time. The total lunar eclipse happened the day we arrived as well. I’d been planning how to take some photos for a couple of days but when we arrived it was heavily overcast and threatening rain. Fortunately though it all cleared up by early evening and I was able to get some photos.
