Atherton Tablelands

I travelled for a month in China back in the 80’s. I can still remember arriving in Chengdu after a 24 hour train trip. The local guide told us that the joke in Chengdu was that ‘Dogs bark at the sun’. Well, Millaa Millaa is a bit like that!

We spent a week here and it rained on and off the whole time – even had the heater on some evenings! Not what you’d expect for Far North Queensland.

Still, we love the tablelands – everything is so green and the rolling hills and wet tropical rain forests are beautiful.

Jude was a bit annoyed as we missed the Yungaburra markets – fourth Sunday in the month and May happened to have five Sundays this year. We made up for it though with drives in the area to the waterfalls, lunch at Mungalli Bio-dynamic Dairy – very yum!

We drove to Mareeba one day to get some warmth and avoid the rain. We’d visited the Coffee Works back in 2003 when it was just in a small tin shed. Still in a tin shed but much bigger now! Nice coffee and cakes.

And then it was getting ready for the drive to Weipa.
